Most people confuse their values with their goals, their parents' values, or the values of the culture they grew up in.
When I ask clients what they value, they usually give me one of two answers. They either list virtues โ honesty, kindness, hard work โ or they list goals โ financial freedom, a happy family, career success.
Neither of these is a value. At least not in the ACT sense.
In ACT, a value is a direction you choose to move in โ not a destination you arrive at. Connection is a value. Achieving a happy family is a goal. The difference matters enormously in practice.
A value cannot be achieved. It can only be lived โ moment to moment, choice by choice.
The clarity work in Stage 3 of the Self Blueprint is designed to cut through the noise and connect you to what genuinely moves you โ not what you think should move you, not what moved your parents, not what culture says should move you.
This is harder than it sounds. Many of us have spent decades performing values rather than living them. The reconnection takes time and honesty.
